Israel Ramos Comes to Guam

Israel Ramos-founder and former President of GYC "Generation of Youth for Christ" comes to Guam.

We felt privileged to have Israel come all the way to Guam to inspire the young people here. While a missionary on the campus of University of Michigan, he and some friends around the United States decided to do an experiment, bring a few speakers together at one location and see if young people really are interested to get together to search the Word. The first event at Pine Springs Ranch expected 200 but had to close registration when it reached 500 as it maxed out the facility. The next year expected 700 but over 1200 crowded into the auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

By 2004 in Sacramento, when Dmitry and I attended, close to 2000 young people listened to messages elevating the theme "Carry the Light". The entire Sacramento Convention Center filled to capacity. Speakers included Jan Paulson, Louis Torres and Doug Batchelor beamed via the television network 3ABN to millions around the world. More than 20 chartered buses carried the young people throughout the city as they searched for those interested in studying the Bible. In one afternoon, 700 interested people signed up for Bible study. As the buses ran out of room, Dmitry and I went in our own car as night came on, we "carried the light" asking people from all backgrounds if they wanted to have Bible Study, Dmitry practiced his Spanish and with the gift of tongues, the man agreed to signing up for Bible study.

As we came to Guam, several of us including Ken Lee who went to the GYC in Ann Arbor, Michigan yearned to bring the spirit of GYC to this area and it's islands. And it is now a reality about to happen.

This past May over Mother's Day we listened to Israel Ramos share a series of "Encounters with Jesus". Ken Lee is one of Israel's friends from University of Michigan days when Israel first became involved with CAMPUS (Center for Adventist Ministries of Public University Students) on the U of Michigan.

After persistent effort, Ken worked to bring Israel to a Youth and Young Adult Revival Weekend on Guam. When young people come together bring a power not found in any committee or back room discussion begins. We found that to be the case in the entire weekend. The churches of Ypao-Ordot, Talofofo and Agana Heights filled to capacity with young people wanting to hear the Word. A great prelude to our effort for PYC "Pacific islands Youth for Christ" at the Guam Marriott Hotel.

If you would like to attend the event or know people in the Pacific islands or Pacific Rim that would like to attend this event, please direct them to www.pycweb.com and share this registration form that is located below.

Happy New Year 2008

Now that 2008 is well under way, Dmitry and Grace made it back to Guam. We thank all our hosts while visiting our friends in the states over the Holidays. It is such a blessing to see everyone and have the support of so many people. The following is a Year in Review for 2007 to update everyone to our lives. We hope you enjoy it.

Despite the adversity we've found much joy in traveling to different islands and places with a health evangelism focus.

We found much courage in the following passage that helped us to move forward despite the obstacles.

"Unbelief whispers 'Let us wait until the obstructions are removed, and we can see our way clearly;' but faith courageously urges an advance, hoping all things, believing all things.” Obstacles that hinder our progress will never disappear before a halting, doubting spirit. 'The Lord will fight for you, and you will hold your peace.' Exodus 14:14".

Please pray for us as we do for you this coming year for all the people we meet this year. Our goal is to reach the 55-60 unentered islands of Micronesia spreading our health message and love of Jesus.

Physical Therapist Tip for January 2008

Most people feel they need to start their New Year strong exercising 6x a week pushing their limits to carry them through a New Year. This often leads to burn out and injury. Remember, exercise can happen throughout the day. Lifting grocery bags ten times on the way to the car count as biceps curls. Walking an extra flight of stairs is 3 minutes of aerobic exercise. The latest research shows intermittent short frequency exercise is more beneficial and leads to less burn out and more success.
Be creative by using Nike's Kinetic for the PS2 or the Wii Fitness Sports. Both of these options may be an innovative solution to bad weather blues or finding an excuse not to exercise. Remember to get outside for the fresh air and immune fighting sunshine for exercise as well.
